The Minister for Human Resource Development, Shri Arjun Singh launched a portal on a wide range of educational supports such as scholarships, fellowships, freeships and educational loans etc. here today. The portal www.educationsupport.nic.in will serve as a ready reference/single window source of information relating to scholarships etc. available in India. It will save the valuable time of students and other aspirants from the trouble and inconvenience of searching for information from various sources. First of its kind in India, the portal presents information on various types of incentives available from all sources such as educational institutions, universities, Ministries of Government of India, organizations, non-government sources and information about educational loans from various public and private sector banks.
The portal presents around 200 scholarships for study in India offered by over 60 universities/institutions/organizations, 20 scholarships from the non-government sources and 28 external scholarships exclusively offered by MHRD for study abroad. The website also presents information about educational loans offered by 23 banks in India. The information will benefit over five million students pursuing different fields in education. The portal also deals with admission policy announcements i.e. the facility of applying for scholarships online with the support of universities/ institutions etc. This facility will enable the students to know of the status of their applications for scholarships applied for.
The portal is also in fulfillment of the UPA Governments commitment in the National Common Minimum Programme to ensure that nobody is denied professional education because he or she is poor. The portal will bridge the information gap between the rich and the poor students and enable the latter to take full advantage of the various incentives available to achieve their objective of higher education.
