In order to promote entry of new airlines in the slots in accordance with IATA guidelines, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has decided to create a slot pool of available slots after allocating slots to airlines on the basis of historical rights at the time of coordination of slots for the new season. This was informed by Shri Praful Patel, Minister for Civil Aviation in the Rajya Sabha.
In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha the Minister stated that 50% of left over slots are to be allocated to new entrants airlines. In case, new entrants are less than 50%, then the same could be considered for allocation to other airlines.
The Airport Operator/Slot Allocation Committee will deal with allocation of slots at Greenfield airports and AAI airports, respectively.
The slot allocation policy ensures level playing field for public and private sector as it is non-discriminatory and the airport operator is expected to implement the slot allocation policy in fair and equitable manner, the Minister added.
