The Members of the Hindi Salahakar Samiti of the Mines Ministry today urged the officials of the Ministry and its PSUs to develop a liking for Hindi as it is the only link language to ensure unity amidst all diversities in the country. They asked all concerned for putting in more concerted efforts to further project the use of Hindi. They observed that vacant posts of Hindi translators in the Ministry and its organizations should be filled up to avoid delay in work. The meeting was held here under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for Mines, Shri Sis Ram Ola. The Minister of State for Coal & Mines, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao was also present.

The Minister outlined the activities of the Ministry to implement Hindi in its departments and PSUs. Most of the employees, he said, have been trained under the Hindi Teaching Scheme. The Ministry has taken initiatives to popularise the language in the office work by observing Hindi Day, Week and Fortnight and by arranging competitions among the employees and awarding prizes. The Members felt that the prize incentive was too meager to promote the national language in the offices. The Minister announced that the amount of first, second and third prizes would be increased to Rs.3,000, Rs.2,000 and Rs.1,000/- in place of Rs.1,000, Rs.500 and Rs.300. He said, that all departments / PSUs of Mines Ministry would dedicatedly promote use of Hindi in the daily work.

Shri Ola said that the Ministry has a scheme to encourage the original writings in Hindi. It brings out a quarterly home magazine 'Khan Sampada' to popularise its activities. GSI and NALCO bring out their home journals 'Bhu Sandesh' and 'Akshar' regularly. Besides regular Hindi promotion schemes, the Ministry has a Special Rajabhasha Running Shield Scheme and a Fortnightly Paragraph Writing Scheme with prizes.
