The Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shri S. Jaipal Reddy has expressed grief at the demise of Shri C.R. Irani, Managing Director & Editor-in-Chief of Statesman, who passed away today.
In a condolence message, Shri Reddy said that C.R. Irani was a fearless journalist who championed the freedom of Press. His commitment to this cause earned him worldwide acclaim. Shri Irani was a votary of clean public life and exposed corruption in high places.
In his death, the country has lost an astute journalist with democratic values and an ardent advocate of free press.
The Minister expressed deep sympathies for the bereaved family members.
