Considering the disruption caused by heavy rains in Maharashtra, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has extended the due date for filing of returns of income to 31st August, 2005 in case of assessees in Maharashtra. A decision to extend the due date for filing of returns of income, which is 31st July 2005, was taken by CBDT in exercise of powers conferred under section 119 of the Income Tax Act, 1961, here today.
In view of the serious flood situation in Gujarat, CBDT has already extended the due date to 31st August, 2005 in the case of taxpayers in that State on 7th July, 2005.
