On 15 Feb 05, a Pak soldier accidentally slipped from his Post in Piun Sector and fell on the steep slopes towards Line of Control opposite Sub Sector Hanif, which is to the South of Siachen Glacier.
As the area of fall could not be viewed from Pak side, the Indian Director General of Military Operations, in response to request of Pakistan Director of Military Operations, promptly agreed to help in locating and recovery of the Pak soldier. However, due to inclement weather and high snow levels, the Pak soldier could not be traced immediately.
On reduction of snow levels, the body of the Pak soldier was finally spotted by Indian troops on 19 Jul 05, whereupon the Pak authorities were informed. The body was ultimately recovered by Pakistan on 21 Jul 05.
