indian railways exceeds its freight target during 1st quarter of current fiscal

Indian Railways have carried 159.98 million tonnes of freight during the first quarter of the current financial year which is 7.17 million tonnes more than the target. The freight carried shows an increase of 18.72 million tonnes over the freight of 141.26 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period of last financial year. The target for April-June, 2005 was 152.81 million tonnes.

During the month of June, 2005 the freight carried by Indian Railways was 52.40 million tonnes, which is 2.02 million tonnes more than the target of 50.38 million tonnes. This represents an increase of 5.43 million tonnes over the actual freight of 46.97 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during June, 2004.
