The Government is working on an action plan to promote India as prominent Convention Destination. India Convention Promotion Bureau constituted jointly with the Travel and tourism industry is working on marketing strategy to tap the potential of conference markets and to present the case of India before the major conference organizers. The Bureau will not only help in bidding for the major conferences all over the world but also ensure single window clearance for organizing in India. This was informed by Shri Rajeev Talwar, Additional Director General of Tourism addressing the media persons here today.

Shri Rajeev Talwar said more than Rs. 12,000,00 crore business is being done in the area of convention and conference and only 3% comes as share to India. All efforts will be made to increase the share to the significant level. The Government has already decided to set up mega convention centers in Delhi, Jaipur and Goa. Besides this, numbers of such centers are coming up in private sectors. Shri Talwar said that a convention in the second week of August will be held in New Delhi where more than 300 buyers and sellers from across the world would participate to access the facilities and infrastructure available in the country for holding international conventions. He expressed the hope that conclave would give major impetus in the promotion of India as an international convention destination.
