As per latest information available, total number of Swarozgaris assisted since inception i.e. April, 1999 under Swarnajayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana (SGSY) is about 57.43 lakhs.
The Ministry of Rural Development is implementing SGSY as a self employment scheme in the rural areas of all the States/UTs except Delhi and Chandigarh. Under the scheme, assistance is provided to the families living below the poverty line in rural areas of the country to bring them above the poverty line by providing them income generating assets through a mix of bank credit and government subsidy. The Central allocation and releases made to the States/UTs through DRDAs during last two years i.e., 2003-04 and 2004-05 are as under:
