The Central Wakf Council has suggested to the Central Government to enact a Special Act providing for a special regime for administration and management of the Taj Mahal. In an extra-ordinary meeting held here earlier this week to discuss the situation arising out of the decision of the UP Sunni Central Board of Wakfs, the Central Wakf Council in a unanimous resolution expressed pain at the recent controversy regarding the status of Taj Mahal. The council has wished that the Taj Mahal should continue to enjoy the status of a national monument. The meeting was presided over by the chairpersons of the Central Wakf Council and Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Smt. Meira Kumar. The Text of the Resolution adopted unanimously at the Meeting is as follows:
That as a citizen of this great country, we are all proud of the Taj Mahal as our precious historic and cultural heritage, which has been declared by the UNESCO as a world heritage.
That we are pained at the recent controversy regarding the status of the Taj Mahal and sincerely wish that the Taj Mahal should continue to enjoy the status of a national monument.
Keeping in view the World Heritage status of the Taj Mahal, we advise the Government of India to enact a Special Act providing for a special regime for its administration and management.
We appeal to all peace loving citizens of India to rise above narrow considerations and stand united in upholding the dignity of our nation and its great cultural heritage.
