country celebrates 125th birth anniversary of munshi premchand

The 125th birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand, a great Hindi novelist is being celebrated throughout the country on 31st July, 2005. To commemorate this occasion, a book on Munshi Premchand titled “Premchand Patro Mein” edited by Shri Mangalmoorty was released here today.

In a message, Shri Arjun Singh, Minister for Human Resource Development, which was read out in his absence, said that correspondence between Munshi Premchand and other contemporary writers mirror’s political, social and economic situation of his time. Referring to Munshi Premchand as a writer for all times, the Minister said that Munshi Premchand is very much relevant in today’s context for his values and concern for the downtrodden and social uplift, which are the major themes of Munshi Premchand’s novel.

Earlier, the book had been released by Hindi poet, Shri Ashok Vajpayee. Shri Sudeep Banerjee, Secretary, Secondary and Higher Education, Government of India was also present on this occasion.
