coal production shows growth

The total coal production in the country in June 2005 is estimated at 28.55 million tonnes (MT) as against 27.69 MT in the same month last year. Out of this 477 working mines of Public Sector Coal India Limited (CIL) and its subsidiaries produced 24.38 MT, 67 mines of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), a joint Undertaking of Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Government of India, produced 2.52 MT and other 16 mines contributed 1.65 MT.

The total off-take of coal during the month was 29.65 MT against 29.60 MT during June 2004. Coal off-take in June by CIL was 25.34 MT, SCCL 2.61 MT and other mines 1.70 MT.
