ceasefire agreement with upds extended by one year

Suspension of hostile operations between United Peoples’ Democratic Solidarity (UPDS), a militant outfit operating in Assam and the security forces has been extended for a period of one year up to 31.07.2006. The agreement has been in force since August 1, 2002.

UPDS is active in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam. They have been demanding a separate State for the Karbis.
