CBI conducts searches in three states in ISD call diversion case

CBI today carried out searches at the office and residential premises of a Telecom District Manager (TDM), BSNL, Rampur and his accomplishes in connection with alleged diverting of ISD calls, which were not being recorded at the Exchange, and causing loss of lakhs of rupees to the exchequer.

During the search, CBI has recovered property including 4 acres of commercial land in Moradabad, 2 acres of land in Rampur, Matiz car, and documents relating a plot in NOIDA (UP). Besides, Rs. 87,000/- (apprx.) of cash has also been recovered. The searches were carried out in many premises at Rampur (UP), Moradabad (UP), Kashipur (Uttranchal and Hoshiarpur (Punjab).

On the basis of source information CBI had registered a case in the year 2003 alleging that some officials of the local telephone exchanges of BSNL entered into criminal conspiracy with some unknown persons and dishonestly and unauthorisedly created Trunk Groups (TGPs) by manipulating telephone exchange equipment and provided ISD facilities to some PCO holders and subscribers during the year 2001-02.

The accused TDM is the son of Haakim who was earlier posted in Jammu and Kashmir before being posted as DGM (Technical and Planning), Moradabad during 1999. He continued there till 2003 and was later posted as TDM Rampur.
