arrangements for commonwealth games

Government has constituted a Core Group of Ministers for coordinating the work relating to the Commonwealth Games, 2010. An Organizing Committee under the chairmanship of President, Indian Olympic Association for conduct of the Games has also been set up.

The arrangements for holding the event at different venues in Delhi are underway. The existing infrastructure is being reviewed. The facilities available with the Sports Authority of India (SAI), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and New Delhi Municipal Corporation(NDMC) would be used for most of the disciplines following required up gradation and renovation. A Task Force for up gradation/renovation of SAI’s infrastructure has been set up and the consultancy on SAI’s existing infrastructure has been assigned to CPWD. Condition survey of SAI’s existing five Satdia at Delhi has also been undertaken.

Regarding construction of a commonwealth Games Village, a site off the Nizamuddin Bridge has been identified. DDA has also commenced the action to prepare preliminary designs in respect of new venues and GamesVillage proposed to be constructed by it. A core Committee has been set up by Government of Delhi under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Delhi to prepare a master plan for improvement/up gradation of civic amenities for the Games.
