Tuesday, July 26, 2005

Government has released an amount of 100 crore rupees from the National Calamity Contingency Fund on an ad-hoc basis to enable the Himachal Pradesh Government to carry out relief and rehabilitation and restore immediate connectivity with the affected areas.

Large parts of Himachal Pradesh were affected by heavy rains and flash floods in two spells during the current South-West Monsoon. The first spell of flash floods was caused by a rupture in the landslide dam and artificial lake on river Parechu last month. The State again experienced a second spell of heavy rains between the 5th and the 17th of this month. These two spells have caused extensive damage to property and infrastructure in many parts of Himachal Pradesh. The State is required to undertake relief operations on a very large scale.
