The Mumbai Airport which had become functional by yesterday afternoon sent out its first flight at 1.20 p.m. yesterday. The first flight from Delhi to Mumbai was Indian Airlines flight which left Delhi at 1.45 p.m. Since 24 hours of resumption of flights, there have been approximately 400 arrivals & departures.
Since the airport became operational, all backlogs of domestic passengers were cleared by 10 p.m., 28th July, 2005. The backlog of international passengers was cleared by 5.00 a.m. 29th July, 2005. Starting 1.00 p.m. 28th July, 2005 upto 5.30 a.m. 29th July, 2005 there have been 121 arrivals and 88 departures in the Mumbai Airport.
Today, the runways, taxiways, approach lights and car parking are operational at the Mumbai Airport. ILS is available on runway 14. Localiser part of ILS on runway 27 is available. All Telephone connections have been restored.
Starting 5.30 a.m. upto 3.30 p.m. today there have been 84 arrivals and 112 departures in the Mumbai Airport including scheduled domestic, international and general aviation flights. Of these there have been 14 international arrivals and 11 international departures. The departures are taking place from all the runways while arrivals are being handled on runway 14 only. Operations of helicopters from Juhu Airport is likely to commence from tomorrow.
The Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Praful Patel, has been in Mumbai since yesterday afternoon overseeing the functioning of the Mumbai Airport, which had been severely hit by the floodwater. He is accompanied by the Chairman, Airports Authority of India, Shri K.Ramalingam. Shri Patel had reached Mumbai on the flight with the Honble Prime Minister, Shri Man Mohan Singh.
