task force on housing/habitat policy constituted four sub-committees to submit reports in 3 months

A Task Force has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Secretary, Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation, Smt. Chitra Chopra to revise the National Housing and Habitat Policy.The Task Force consists of 22 members which includes, Principal Secretary (HUD), Planning Commission, Joint Secretary (UD) in the Ministry of Urban Development, Joint Secretary (Banking) in the Ministry of Finance, a representative each from state governments of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu. CMD of HUDCO, Vice Chairman of DDA, Executive Director of HDFC, Secretary General of FICCI, President of CREDAI, CMD of National Housing Bank, MD of NABARD, President of NAREDCO in addition to a representative each from SEWA, SPAARC, CII and ASSOCHAM are the other members. Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Employment & Poverty Alleviation will be the Member Secretary.

The terms of reference of the Task Force are (i) to review the existing Housing & Habitat Policy and suggest changes and draft a new policy, (ii) to review the existing schemes in the housing and habitat sector and suggest revision of those schemes in the light of the proposed revised Housing Policy, and (iii) to recommend the broad parameters on the lines of which the model laws may be drafted to boost the housing activities and to remove legal impediments in achieving goals of the proposed revised policy.

Four sub-committees on Social Housing, Housing Finance, Technology Inputs, Legal and Regulatory Matters have been constituted to examine various aspects related Housing & Habitat matters and submit the report within a period of 3 months to the Task Force.

It may be noted that the Housing & Habitat Policy was approved by the Parliament in 1998 and is being revised to make it updated with the current scenario and requirements.
