shri jaipal reddy releases the reference book ‘india 2005’

Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture today released the annual reference book “Indian 2005”. The Joint venture of Publications Division and Research Reference &Training Division of the I&B Ministry, this is the 49th edition of the reference book. Speaking after the release of the book, Shri Reddy said that the Book had established itself as a standard annual reference manual and has high educative value for students, especially those appearing for the competitive examination.

Referring to the collected works of Mahatma Gandhi, Shri Reddy said, the Ministry had decided to appoint a committee of scholars to recommend the course of action for the glaring distortions that had crept in when the series was converted into digital form during 1998. The Minister said that the Committee would examine the nature of omissions/mistakes and suggest ways to rectify the position.

In his remarks, Shri S.K. Arora, Addl. Secretary (I&B) suggested that the information on the recent Tsunami disaster could be considered for incorporation in the said volume, by means of an addendum.

In his welcome address, Shri U.K. Mishra, Director, DPD, highlighted the popularity and usefulness of the book in view of its heavy demand.

‘India 2005’, the annual reference book provides a glimpse of developments in the socio-economic and technological fields in the country. Among others, it also gives authentic information on important aspects of the country like history, art and culture, polity constitution, legislature and judiciary; economic, social aspects and tells about the various plants and progrmmes of the government to improve the lot of the poor in rural and urban areas. The volume presents the sum of national level policies, programmes, activities and achievements during the year 2003-04. The Book is available in English and Hindi.
