About 1500 school children will take part in this years Republic Day Parade. Of this, 850 children drawn from 21 Government aided and public schools of Delhi will be the Flag Bearers, form Band Contingents and present Cultural programmes.
The rest, children coming from various cultural zones of India will present the rich heritage of their region. The cultural zones taking part in this years Parade are North Zone Cultural Centre, Patiala; North Central Zone Cultural Centre, Allahabad; North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur; South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur and South Central Zone Cultural Centre, Nagpur.
The North Zone will present Sammi Folk Dance, based on a love legend. The North Central Zone will present the famous, Barsane Ki Holi, played at Braj Bhumi in the month of Phalgun. The North East Zone will present the Sword Dance, which is a thanksgiving to God after victory in war. The South Zone will showcase folk dance, Devar Attam, a ritualistic and social dance of the Naikar community and the South Central Zone will perform the Chattisgarhi Karma Dance, which is basically a harvest dance.
