rural development ministry releases 3,116 mts of foodgrains to meghalaya

Rural Development Ministry has released 3,116 MTs of food grains (rice) to the State Government of Meghalaya under the Special Component of the SGRY to be utilized for creation of additional wage employment in the flood affected districts of the State. This release was recommended by the National Disaster Management (NDM) Division of the Ministry of Home Affairs. The food grains allocated for flood affected districts of Meghalya are: East Khasi Hills, 33 MTs; West Khasi Hills, 256 MTs; Ri-Bhoi, 9 MTs; Jaintia Hills, 501 MTs; West Garo, 2252 MTs; East Garo, 36 MTs and South Garo, 29 MTs.

Dr. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, Minister of Rural Development has issued instructions to Relief Commissioner of the State/Secretary, Rural Development at the State level and District Collector/District Relief Officer to file a Monthly Progress Report in this regard.

The District Collector/District Relief Officer is responsible for lifting and utilizing the food grains and for the selection of works to be taken up in the flood affected areas for creation of wage employment.
