reforms in railways

Monday, January 10, 2005

The Ministry of Railways has formulated its internal reform programme to address certain key issues.

As part of the overall Reforms Agenda, Railways as a department would deal mostly with the core activities of a national transport organisation in line with its responsibilities, both as a commercial transport organisation and a vehicle for social change.

Other reforms include creation of focused business organisations for activities outside Railways' core competence, and listing modifying, developing and implementing non-core activities through outsourcing, consistent with the agenda of planned rightsizing of the organisation.

The implementation of the Reforms Programme is being monitored on a regular basis.

The reforms will lead to improved costing of services and accounting system as well as enhanced efficiency of Railways.
