Tourist arrivals in the country first time crossed 3 million mark with the total visitors 3367980 in 2004. There was continuous increase in arrivals through out the year and in all 23.5% increase was recorded in comparison to 2003.
Foreign exchange earnings through tourist arrivals also registered significant increase, 36.1%, over the earnings of the previous year.
After the Tsunami tragedy large-scale cancellations of tourists visit to the country were being apprehended but so far no such cancellations have been reported.
