The Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI) has developed for the first time a Masters Degree Course in Prosthetics & Orthotics to meet the demand of trained professionals at the Master Trainers level. Till now only the Bechelors Degree Programmes in Prosthetics and Orthotics were available in the country. The Council has received proposals from some institutions to run the course and the process of recognition is under way. It is hoped that a few institutions will be able to start the Masters degree course in Prosthetics and Orthotics from the next academic session.
Another course approved in this area is the Bridge Course in Prothetics and Orthotics to be run on experimental basis for one year. The duration of the course will be 12 months through distance mode with contact classes and will be conducted at the National Institutes on disability. The eligibility criteria for admission to this course will be Diploma or equivalent with minimum five years of experience. The modalities for running this course are being worked out in consultation with National Institutes.
