railways’ own captive v-sat hub

Wednesday, January 19, 2005

Indian Railways have decided to set up a Captive V-Satellite Hub to provide V-SAT connectivity to remote and inaccessible locations for operational requirements.

The Satellite Hub will support about 200 V-SAT terminals for the Freight Operations Information System (FOIS) project and another 100 terminals for the Disaster Management Communication System.

Availability of the captive V-SAT Hub will be used for remote video conferencing, especially from accident sites, and provision of Passenger Reservation System (PRS) and Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) facilities at locations where no railway communication medium is available.

The V-SAT Satellite Hub will enhance overall efficiency and safety of rail services to the nation as also a better customer satisfaction in the emerging globalization of Indian economy.
