National Fertilizers Limited, a Government of India Undertaking under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has been permitted to manufacture and conduct commercial trial of the Neem Coated Urea for a period of two years with effect from 12.5.2003 by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation. Accordingly, the Company has standardised techniques for the production of Neem Oil Coated Urea at their Panipat and Bhatinda Plants and its agronomical efficiencies have been established at farmers’ fields. The Company is promoting use of Bio-fertilizers and eco-friendly crop rotation and augmenting the farmer knowledge by implementing various programmes in collaboration with State Agriculture Directorate, Agriculture Universities and Krishi Vigyan Kendras operating in various States, especially in the State of Punjab, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

The Company has a total installed capacity of 32.08 lakh MT of urea. During the year 2003-04, it has achieved ever best production of 32..50 lakh MT of urea. Thus, the company has achieved an overall capacity utilisation of 101.52 per cent including industrial nitrogen against 100.50 per cent during the previous year. The authorised capital of the Company as on 31.3.2004 stood at Rs. 500 crore and the paid up capital at Rs. 490.58 crore comprising of Government of India’s share of Rs. 479 crore (97.64 per cent), Financial Institutions of 11.48 crore (2.34 per cent ) and employees/others of Rs.0.10 crore (0.02 per cent).
