pravasi bharatiya divas set for intellectually stimulating sessions on day 2

Day 2 of the ongoing Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, 2005 in Mumbai would see brainstorming of sorts. Lined up on Saturday are 13 sectoral sessions covering the following areas: Education, Science & Technology, Health Care, Voluntary Sector and Government, Entertainment, NRI’s in Gulf, PIO Issues, Tourism and Culture, Finance, Tracing the Roots, Infrastructure, Legal Issues relating to Private International Law and Diaspora and also Knowledge Based Industry.

The discussion on NRI’s in Gulf would be led by Shri E. Ahmed, Union Minister of State for External Affairs while the Chairperson for the session on Infrastructure would be Dr. Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman, Planning Commission. Shri Sam Pitroda would be heading the Session on Voluntary Sector and Government with emphasis on water management and income generation for rural development. The Session on Education would cover three areas; University and Higher Education, Secondary and Vocational Education along with Promotion of Schools and Elementary Education.

The Chairman of Wockhardt, Shri Habil Khorakiwala would set the ball rolling in the Session on Health Care with his opening remarks while noted filmmaker Shri Yash Chopra would deliver the welcome address on a Session on Entertainment moderated by the Chairman of UTV, Shri Ronnie Screwvala.

Saturday’s Sectoral Sessions follow a host of discussions on Friday, the first day of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas – 2005, covering themes such as India: A Hub for Globalization and New Initiatives for the Diaspora.
