Indian Railways have taken up port connectivity projects on 2291.5 kilometres at an anticipated cost of Rs. 4392.66 crores since 2002-2003.
A sum of Rs. 1126.49 crores has been incurred on port connectivity projects till March 2004.
The outlay for the current financial year 2004-2005 is Rs. 344.92 crores.
The port connectivity projects are part of National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY), which was launched in 2002-2003. These have been planned to be completed to in a time frame of five years.
The projects are : Panvel-Jawaharlal Negru Port Trust (JNPT) (doubling), Panvel-Karjat, (new line), Rajatgarh-Nargundi (doubling), Nargundi-Cuttack-Raghunathpur (doubling), Rahama-Pradeep (doubling), Haridaspur-Pradeep (new line), Banspani-Daitari (new line), Hassan-Mangalore (gauge conversion), Surendranagar-Pipavav (gauge conversion), Salem-Cuddalore (gauge conversion), Thanjavur-Villupuram via Cuddalore (gauge conversion), Gandhidham-Palampur (gauge conversion), Panskura-Haldia Phase I (Panskura-Rajgoda) (doubling), Hospet-Guntakal (doubling), Barauni-Tilrath (doubling), Bhilai-Samdari (gauge conversion), Mansi-Saharsa-Purnea (gauge conversion) and Delhi-Rewari (material modification of Phulera-Marwar-Ahmedabad.
