philippines president speaks to dr. kalam and condoles loss of lives in tsunami disaster

The President of the Philippines Mrs. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo spoke to the President, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam over telephone today and expressed her condolences over the loss of lives and destruction of property in India due to the tsunami disaster which hit the Southern Coast on December 26, 2004. The President of the Philippines also offered help to India in relief and rehabilitation work. Dr. Kalam accepted the condolences and thanked her for the offer of help and informed her that Government of India and the State Governments and other agencies are providing all help to the affected people. However, if any help is required in the future the Government of the Philippines would be got in touch with.

Condolence messages in the meanwhile have also been received from the President of Panama, Mr. Martil Torrijos Espino, the President of Singapore, Mr. S.R. Nathan and the Governor of the State of California in the United States, Mr. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has also sent a message.
