The National Committee for Birth Centenary Celebrations of the late Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri met today under the Chairmanship of Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh to chalk out programmes for celebration of birth centenary of the late leader.

After deliberations the Committee made the following recommendations:

i) Production of a documentary film on Shastriji.

ii) Setting up Chairs in Defence Studies and in Rural Development in appropriate Institutions.

iii) Naming a Library after Shastriji and strengthening it.

iv) Issuing of a stamp and commemorative Coin.

v) Installation of Statue in Parliament premises.

vi) Inauguration of Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial at 1, Motilal Nehru Marg.



It was also decided to constitute an Organizing Committee to finalize programmes and work out the details of implementation and consider other suggestions of members during the Centenary year. A financial allocation of about Rs. 20 crore was recommended by the Committee.

Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee, Shri V. P. Singh, Shri I.K. Gujral, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Shri Shivraj Patil, Shri Sunil Dutt, Smt. Meira Kumar, Shri B. L. Joshi, Smt. Shiela Dikshit, Marshal of IAF Arjan Singh, Smt. Mohsina Kidwai, Shri Anil Shastri, Shri Sunil Shastri, Dr. Rehman Khan, Shri J. B. Singh and Shri Inder Malhotra were among those present. U. P. Government was represented by Shri Mohhamad Ajam Khan, Minister for P. Affairs & Urban Development, U. P. Government.
