Deeply moved by the plight of students in the Tsunami hit areas, the Ministry of Human Resource Development has decided to waive the semester fees, examination fees and entrance examination fees in the affected States and Union Territories. These amounts will be reimbursed by CBSE or UGC as appropriate.
The decision was taken at a high level meeting chaired by the Minister for Human Resource Development Shri Arjun Singh.
It has also been decided that the class X and XII examination being conducted by the CBSE from March 1 April 1, 2005 will be rescheduled for those students who wish to avail of the revised schedule. The revised schedule will stretch over from May 19-31, 2005. Practical examinations will be held after the theory papers wherever necessary. State Boards are also being requested to follow this pattern. Universities have announced revised schedules wherever necessary.
It has also been decided that permission will be granted to students from Tsunami hit areas to appear in All India Entrance Examinations such as AIEEE in anticipation of their successfully clearing board examinations. Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas will conduct special coaching classes for Board and Entrance examinations. Students will also be permitted to appear for examinations at centers of their choice. The procedure for obtaining duplicate certificates has also been substantially simplified and instructions are being issued to all concerned that duplicate certificates be honoured.
