intensive search to be carried out in sariska tiger reserve

Monday, January 31, 2005

Intensive search will be carried out in the Sariska Tiger Reserve and adjoining forest areas in the coming fortnight. The field survey will also include ground truthing for snares, traps and other untoward objects in the habitat, to be carried out by deploying forest guard trainees from Rajasthan along with the local staff.

The Chief Wildlife Warden of Rajasthan has been advised to regulate the vehicular pilgrim traffic, as per the guidelines issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests, inside Sariska as well as Ranthambore, which has gone up tremendously in the recent past (almost 1500 vehicles per day in Sariska), which is a major disturbing factor for wild animals.

As per the records available, the tigers were last seen by tourists in the Sariska Tiger Reserve on 28th November 2004. As per the last census of tigers in the year 2001-02, there are 22 (twenty two) tigers in the Sariska Tiger Reserve.
