indo-pak peace mission delegation meets home minister

A twenty-member delegation of joint “Indo-Pak Peace & Goodwill Mission” met the Home Minister, Shri Shivraj Patil here today. The delegation was led by Smt. Nirmala Deshpande, MP (Rajya Sabha) and Mr. John Prabhudas, Executive Director, Policy Institute for Religion and State, Washington. The members of the delegation apprised the Home Minister of their objective of strengthening people to people contacts between India and Pakistan. The delegation has already visited Pakistan. They told the Home Minister that they had received tremendous response for their mission from people of both the countries and requested for easing of visa restrictions.

The Home Minister appreciated the work of the delegation and said that it would strengthen the understanding between the peoples of the two countries. He said that the Government has taken many steps to strengthen the relations between the two countries and would be willing to take more steps to help people. He highlighted the fact that there are many areas of potential cooperation between the two countries because of the similar historical background and language.
