Finance Minister, Shri P. Chidambaram held a meeting with his counterpart of Japan, Mr. Sadakazu Tanigaki, here today and shared the view that the two Governments should, in order to strengthen their nations’ economic relationship, revise the “Convention between the Government of Japan and the Government of Republic of India for the avoidance of Double Taxation and the Prevention of Fiscal Evasion with respect to Taxes on Income” (the Income Tax Treaty) which has been in effect since 1989. A decision to initiate formal negotiations in February in Tokyo was also taken at the meeting.
