IN A JOINT OPERATION CBI RECOVERS ANTIQUITIES WORTH RS.ONE CRORE

A joint team of CBI and Archaeological Survey of India in an operation arrested one Sabdar Ali of Kheri Gujar village of Distt. Sonepat, Haryana for carrying out illegal business of antiquties. The team recovered 34 rare pieces of antiquities and art objects worth nearly a crore of rupees in the International market during the searches.

On the basis of source information, the Antiquity Branch of CBI after mounting sustained surveillance, zeroed in on the accused Sabadar Ali and recovered the rare pieces of antiquities believed to belong to the periods for which no recorded history is available. The recovery includes a Terracotta Brick showing three human heads ( found in existence only during the Kushan Period), Terracotta Stamp of approx. size of 5x4 cms and a Terracotta human head of approx. size of 13x8.5 cms of considerable vintage. A headless Budha in soft stone, terracotta horse with hind legs broken and a human head made of sand stone of the size of 24x18.5 cms are among the recoveries. The recovery of sand stone pillars of various sizes are other highlights of this operation.

After sustained interrogation, the accused Sabdar Ali has been taken into custody and the CBI team is trying to find out all possible linkages related to its source and the ultimate destination. The accused is being produced in the court at Ambala today.
