Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM), a public sector Unit of the Mines Ministry, during December, 2004, scrutinized the mining plan of Palakheda Bauxite mine of Saurashtra Minerals, Gujarat. It observed that while estimating the reserves one section of the mine was omitted. On the advice of IBM, the company re-estimated the reserves which increased unrecoverable reserves by 2,56,497 tonnes amounting to about Rs.2.7 crore.
On suggestions of IBM, the Odomola Iron Ore Mines of Sova in South Goa, carried out additional exploration through 14 boreholes with a cumulative meterage of 858 m. This additional exploration has resulted in augmentation of reserves by 2.17 million tonnes of 58 per cent iron.
In Bandhal Manganese Mine of Kanakdhara Mining & Minerals (Pvt.) Ltd., Orissa, low grade ore of 20-26 per cent manganese is being beneficiated in pilot scale calcination plant, thereby making it saleable. The processing methodology had been developed by IBM, Nagpur. The party has exported 25 tonnes of beneficiated ore to Italy during the year 2003-04.
