The Hindi Advisory Committee for the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting met under the chairmanship of Shri S. Jaipal Reddy, Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Culture today. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Reddy said that efforts are being made to further increase the use of Hindi in the official work of the various departments under the Ministry.
Apprising the members of the steps taken since the previous meeting, the member secretary said that Films Division, Film & Television Institute of India, Pune, Publication Division, Registrar of Newspapers in India, Press Council of India and the Press Information Bureau have bilingual websites whereas the website of the Akashvani has been partially converted into Hindi. The process is on in the other media organizations to make their websites bilingual. He informed that all the Departments have been instructed to strictly implement the guidelines for use of Hindi in their day to day working.
The members suggested that in future they should also be informed about the extent of implementation of the guidelines and instructions on use of Hindi. Monitoring in this regard should be done during inspections also. The members were informed that vacant Hindi posts in All India Radio could not be filled up because of lack of recruitment rules which can be finalized only after approvals by the Ministry of Law and Department of Personnel and Training. The members expressed satisfaction over the improvement in the language of the Hindi Programmes/News of the Doordarshan but felt that there was scope for further improvement. One of the members suggested that in order to promote the use of Hindi, some innovative approach should be adopted. They said that globalization should not be an excuse to relegate Hindi to the secondary position since Hindi has the potential to unify the nation.
The awards for best performance in the use of Hindi were also presented to the four Radio/DD Stations.
Secretary I&B Shri Navin Chawla proposed a vote of thanks. He said that All India Radio broadcast nearly 13,000 messages mostly in Hindi during the Tsunami crisis in the Anadaman & Nicobar Islands, which worked as a life line to many in distress.
The meeting was attended by S/Sh Ramdev Bhandari, MP; Phoolchander Suman; Nishi Mishra; Pushpa Bharati, Prof. Mahavir S. Jain (All non-official members) and Heads of the Departments of the Ministry of I&B.
