The Telecom Company of France ALCATEL have contributed Rs. 2 crore to the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund in cash and kind. The rupees two crore contribution has two components. One being Rs. 20 lakh by way of contribution of one-day salary from employees of the Company and a sum equivalent to their contribution by the Company itself. The other being 4000 mobile telephone sets (worth Rs. 1.80 crore) for distribution among the NGOs and the Social Activists engaged in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation work in the Tsunami affected areas of coastal Tamilnadu, Kerala and in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The Head of the South Asian Region of the Company handed over the Cheque and the Mobile Telephone Sets to Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & Information Technology, here today.
