The Union Health and Family Minister, Dr Anbumani Ramadoss is leaving for London tomorrow to address a two-day International Conference on the Pharmaceutical industry. The conference entitled The Pharmaceutical Industry in the 21st Century: Is India challenging the R&D Business model is being organized by Chatham House, London on Monday and Tuesday. The Minister is to deliver the key note address in the meeting on Monday.
The meeting brings together all persons involved in the pharmaceutical industry as well as participants involved in research and development world-wide.
The Conference will through a mixture of specific roundtable discussions and plenary sessions, explore the impact of the emerging Indian science capacity on the future shape of the pharmaceutical R&D business model, examine Indias pluralistic health care system, and analyze and discuss the potential for future investment in Indian healthcare markets.
The Indian pharmaceutical industry is ranked 4th in the world, growing at 5.1%. Globally, the output of Indian pharmaceutical industry ranks 4th in terms of volume and 13th in terms of value. The future for this industry is going to be a moving target which will have major impact on the R&D business model of the established global pharmaceutical companies.
From London, the Minister is scheduled to travel to Geneva to address a Ministerial Meeting on polio being organized by the World Health Organization.
