Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has reiterated here today that he remained committed to the development of Mumbai into a city with world class infrastructure. Speaking to a select gathering of state government ministers and industrialists after a presentation was made to him by the state government on development of Mumbai, he said that Shri Prithviraj Chauhan, Minister of State in the PMO would coordinate between the state and central government to ensure that Mumbai’s problems received attention. Dr. Singh said Mumbai was a city with large externalities and asked the state planners to look into the sequencing of projects meant to improve Mumbai.

The presentation was attended by the Chief Minister, Maharashtra, Shri Vilasrao Deshmukh, Deputy Chief Minister Shri R.R. Patil and members of the State government cabinet. Present were the Minister of State in the PMO, Shri Prithviraj Chauhan and Union Minister of Sports Shri Sunil Dutt. The Chief Secretary Shri Prem Kumar made the presentation to the Prime Minister. The major projects mentioned included the Mumbai Urban Transport Project Phase I and II, Mumbai Urban Infrastructure project, metro link, sea link project, housing and civic infrastructure projects and the Dharavi project. The total cost projected in the presentation for the development of Mumbai was Rs. 40,000 crores.

The meeting was also attended by industrialists Anand Mahindra, Mukesh Ambani, Deepak Parekh, Jamshed Godrej, MPs Milind Deora and Gurudas Kamat and senior state government officials.
