The services in the Currency Note Press, Nasik Road will continue as a public utility service under the Industrial Dispute Act, 1947 for another six months with effect from 15th January 2005. In a notification issued here, the Labour Ministry said that this has been done in public interest. The Central Government had earlier declared the services in the Currency Note Press as a public utility service for six months from 15th January last year followed by another extension for six months from 15th July 2004.
The employees in this industry, as a result, would among other things be required to give notice to their employer six weeks in advance of proceeding on strike so that conciliatory proceedings could be started. During the conciliatory proceedings and seven days after their completion, the employees cannot go on strike.
