The Department of Information Technology (DIT) has constituted a Committee, under the Chairmanship of Secretary, DIT to review the goals of the Technology Development for Indian Languages (TDIL) programme of DIT and suggest appropriate directions. The Terms of Reference of the Committee are:-
(i) to identify projects that can quickly result in products or services that meet public needs.
(ii) to identify current status of language technology in each of the major areas of technology in India and the World.
(iii) to suggest major technology development goals to be set for TDIL as mission projects and other longer term project (ranging from one to three years) and now such goals can lead to deployable systems.
(iv) to suggest strategy to be followed to achieve the technology development goals and its deployment.
(v) to suggest evaluation criteria and mechanism to be put in place to measure development efforts.
(vi) to identify major gaps/lacunae in technology, data collection, trained manpower, etc., and suggest appropriate remedial action.
(vii) to identify major opportunities worldwide for language technologies that get developed in India.
