CBI ARRESTS AN EMPLOYEE OF AIIMS AND TWO TOUTS IN A JOB RACKET IN AIIMS

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested three persons including an employee of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for their involvement in a job racket in the Premier Medical College and Hospital of the Country. The three arrested persons are Thomas Joseph @ William,Sebi Thomas and Suresh, an employee of the AIIMS.

On the basis of a complaint received from the Chief Vigilance Officer of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences one William had contacted the brother of one of the candidates who had appeared for interview for the post of Nurse in AIIMS held in Nov.,2004 in which the said candidate was not selected. William told the brother of this candidate that his brother's name can be inserted in the waiting list if he gives him bribe of Rs. one lakh. He also gave him his contact mobile Number. The accused further told the complainant that he was known to the officer in AIIMS who would do the recruitment and get his brother included in the waiting list by paying bribe. The accused Thomas Joseph also gave a cheques of Rs.50,000/- drawn on his bank to the complainant as a guarantee for putting the candidate in the waiting list.

On receipt of the said complaint, the demand of bribe was verified and as per the negotiations, one Sh. Thomas Joseph @ Williams and Sh. Sebi Thomas were caught red handed at the residence of Thomas Joseph at Gautam Nagar, New Delhi after they accepted two cheques one of Rs. 40,000/- and other of Rs. 50,000/- from the complainant. Searches at the residence of Thomas Joseph and Sebi Thomas led to the recovery of large number of documents relating to recruitment in AIIMS. Further, from the residence of Sh. Thomas Joseph, 30 number of Passports and 11 cheques worth Rs.4.25 lakh were also recovered. CBI sleuth have found out that Thomas Joseph was a recruiting agent with the Protectorate of Immigrant for sending people abroad on employment but he later surrendered his registration and even after that he was continuing to dupe people in connection with sending them abroad on employment. Recovered documents are under scrutiny.

Futher investigation by CBI revealed that a list of candidates with addresses for the above recruitment was provided to the two accused persons by one Sh. Suresh an employee of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences. Subsequently, Sh. Suresh was also arrested and a diary in which he had noted down the names and addresses of the candidates has also been recovered. The pages of the diary containing such names and addresses have also been recovered during the house search of Sh. Sebi Thomas.

The three accused persons were produced in the Court of Special Judge Shri H.P. Sharma at Patiala House, New Delhi, who remanded them to police custody till 18/1/2005.
