A Rail-Hotel (Railotel) has been commissioned at Kumta in Coastal Karnataka on the Konkan Railway. The Railotel provides passenger facility at stations for improving rail infrastructure and customer travel. In this scheme, the contribution of Konkan Railway is land on lease and the lessee invests, manages and markets the Railotel. It has all safety and emergency precautions. The Konkan Railway gets land lease rent and percentage as royalty from the gross business of the Railotel.
The second such Railotel is to be commissioned at Ratnagiri (Maharashtra) by March 2005.
