The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched the Broadband services in Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Kolkata under the brand name Data One while the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) did the same under Tri Band in the Metros of Delhi and Mumbai. Shri Dayanidhi Maran, Minister of Communications & Information Technology, today launched the new Services from Chennai where the main function was held connecting rest of the function venues through Video Conferencing. In Kolkata, Shri Somnath Chatterjee, Speaker of Lok Sabha inaugurated the services in the presence of Shri Buddhadev Bhattacharya the Chief Minister. In Hyderabad Dr. Y.S. Rajashekahra Reddy, Chief Minister inaugurated the services. In Bangalore, Shri Dharam Singh, Chief Minister inaugurated the services. Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Minister of State for Communications & Information Technology attended the inaugural function held here today. BSNL would provide Broadband Services in 198 cities spread across 24 territorial telecom circles in the country progressively by end of March 2005. In Delhi and Mumbai the services would be provided by MTNL.
With a view to provide the broadband services at affordable price, different categories of tariff plans by BSNL and MTNL are made available to the subscribers. BSNL is providing 8 tariff plans, 4 each under Home Plan and Business Plan. The minimum monthly charges under the Home Plan range from Rs. 500 to Rs. 3,300 and Rs. 1,200 to Rs. 9,000 under Business Plan, depending upon the bandwidth. MTNL has eight tariff plans, the monthly charges for which ranged from Rs. 749 to Rs. 42,999 with bandwidth spanning from 256 Kbps to 2.0 Mbps with unlimited hour-free monthly usages. MTNL is also offering a Free 15 days trial plan (DSL-399) at Rs. 399 at 256 Kbps download speed.
