a section officer dismissed on criminal charges

Shri Basant Kumar, Section Officer, Deptt. of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, while working as Assistant in the Department of Industrial Development, Ministry of Industry was accused of fraudulently getting his brother Shri Satish Kumar appointed as an L.D.C. in that Department by tampering with official records. A criminal case was registered by the CBI. The CBI after investigation filed a criminal case u/s 120B, 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC and sections 5(2) read with Section 5(1) (d) of the PC Act, 1947. Shri Basant Kumar was found guilty by the Competent court and sentenced to RI for three and half years and a fine of Rs. 3,000/-. Disciplinary action was initiated against Shri Basant Kumar under Rule 19 of the CCS (CCA) Rules, 1965 and after consultation with the UPSC, the President has imposed major penalty of ‘Dismissal from Service’ on Shri Basant Kumar, Section Officer. The said officer has been dismissed from service with immediate effect, here today.
