The fury of the Tsunami waves that caused devastation and large-scale casualties in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands has also affected the banking operations. However, despite the serious situation prevailing in the islands, 58 branches of banks out of the total network of 63 branches have become operational. Although banks are keen to restore their services in the remaining 5 affected branches also, they are handicapped due to lack of proper infrastructure. It is, however, expected that banking services would be resumed within the next two months in these five branches.
