The Wool Research Association along with National Centre for Jute Diversification, New Delhi organized a workshop at Yerwada Jail, Pune for the benefit of Technical Trainers engaged in this Central Jail and also the participants from other jails of Maharashtra. Through this workshop they were shown theoretically and practically how their present products could be diversified and how jute can be used to both reduce their product cost, improve their product quality and aesthetics of the products.
Alongwith the trainers some of the prisoners took part in the production of the jute blended products as they found it interesting. This was only possible with the co-operation of Inspector General of Police, Maharashtra State and the Superintendent Jail Industry (MS) who gave the permission, and all the facilities to increase the competence of their technical staff and in making special efforts to organize this programme. The Senior Jail Authorities expressed their appreciation on the success of the workshop and opined that possibly similar workshops should be held in other big prisons where this type of manufacturing activity is being carried out to improve their awareness and interest in this sociable effort. All the participants were given certificates for their participation.
