A US delegation led by Mr. Joe Bogoslan, Deputy Assistant Secretary in the US Department of Commerce called on the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss in New Delhi today. The delegation included senior officials from the US Health Administration as well as officials involved in the health regulatory framework. During the meeting the visiting delegation appraised the Union Health Minister on the latest developments in medical infrastructure and evinced keen interest in sharing their expertise with their counterparts in India. The members of the US delegation briefed the Minister on International pricing practices in global markets and sought the cooperation of the Government in providing quality healthcare using advanced medical technology.

Welcoming the delegation, the Union Health & Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss highlighted the efforts of the Government in the area of stem cell research and medical education. Due to a large number of births in India, the country had great potential for storing and utilizing embryonic stem cells for further research, he said.

Speaking on the potential for medical tourism in India, the Minister appraised the visiting delegation of the steps being taken by his Ministry for accrediting hospitals both in allopathy and in Indian systems of medicines for promoting medical tourism. He said that fifty hospitals administering modern medicines and twenty hospitals specializing in Indian medicines have been identified for accreditation so that world class medicare can be provided to people from outside, seeking quick medical interventions.
