thrust on exim traffic through port connectivity

Tuesday, February 08, 2005

Indian Railways have started giving a thrust to export and import (exim) traffic by speedy evacuation of incoming traffic from the ports and making available additional wagons and containers for outgoing export cargo.

The Railways are also investing through the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) to provide hinterland connectivity to both existing as well as new ports under development to give further a boost to exim traffic.

The RVNL was formed in January 2003 as a special purpose vehicle to remove capacity bottleneck and improve Golden Quadrilateral connecting the four Metros, its diagonals and port connectivity under the National Rail Vikas Yojana (NRVY)
